A robot is a form of sentient mechanic that is not styled to look like a human. It may resemble human-like features, such as arms and legs, but could take many different forms, such as mimicking animals or the like, for example a spider.
Robots serve a purpose for which they are designed and programmed for. Most of the time they are able to freely move around. Robots that are not designed to move around freely are referred to as a service automaton.
