When a dimensional tear goes on long enough without being repaired, it is potentially possible for the conjoining dimensions to "crash."
When a dimensional crash occurs, all the matter in one dimension fades into the other dimension and occupies the same space. Typically this is catastrophic for the entire dimensions that are affected.
