A [[service automaton]] is a type of [[sentient mechanic]] that is not usually able to move around. A [[service automaton]] is essentially a stationary [[robot]] meant for whatever purpose it is built to do.

For example, a crane at a shipyard is considered a [[service automaton]]. It may be sentient, but it is physically unable to move anywhere other than where it is. Another example would be in a car factory, the factory itself would be a [[service automaton]] as it is built for that purpose only.

[[Service automaton]]s are different from [[computerized brain]]s, because [[service automaton]]s are not built with many of the "extra" brain functions that aren't necessary for the task it is built for. In essence, it is the most advanced form of [[Artificial Intelligence]], and does not fall under [[Sentience]].
